Puzzle Boy
The Marvellous Misadventures of Puzzle Boy
A little comedy about the love of puzzles and the puzzle of love.
Growing up, Lawrence could solve a Rubik’s Cube in a heartbeat but when it came to girls he had no clue. A true tale of forgotten words, lost letters and puzzling pursuits. Based upon memories and genuine undelivered love letters locked in a briefcase under his bed, Lawrence weaves a riddle spanning 15 years, from a childhood obsession with puzzles to solving the enigma of first love.
The Marvellous Misadventures of Puzzle Boy recently completed its debut season at the 2006 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
NEWS: There is a very limited encore season of only three Puzzleboy performances in Sept/Oct as part of the Melbourne Fringe.

“A brilliant mix of the shyness of young love and boyish battles on the Rubik’s cube” - THE AGE
“The Marvellous Misadventures of Puzzleboy, although less about puzzles than it is about love (actually, the greatest puzzle of them all), is well named: it is a marvellous show. Beautifully structured within a framework of the 80s puzzles he was so good at solving, he unravels the enigma of love through tremendously amusing stories recounted via unsent childhood and adolescent love letters. Affably poking fun of himself throughout, his jokes are whip-smart whilst retaining an accessible sense of nerdy buffoonery. Lawrence wears his heart, and whatever the metaphorical bodily seat of laughter is, on both sleeves and you can’t help but fall in love with him.” – Beat Magazine

“Lawrence has regularly put up his hand as one of the next generation of great Australian comics and if you needed any more evidence to back up this claim, Puzzle Boy is it. Lawrence uses a variety of multimedia to illustrate the story, not just of one man’s love for puzzles and particularly the ol’ favourite the Rubik’s Cube, but a sweet tale of growing up. The use of old drawings, mazes and fantastic word play add beautiful touches to a great show. But clearly the stand out of the show was Lawrence’s writing. This is probably the best-written show I’ve seen at the festival; the tale of childhood and teenage awkwardness is endearing and milked for comic effect.” – InPress Magazine
